Day 1:

The Long Run South to the Forest Edge

We pack into the 4x4 pop-up roof safari vehicle early—6:00 AM sharp—to dodge the heavy gridlock leading out of Kampala. Today is primarily a travel day, but it’s far from boring. We make a brief stop at the Equator crossing for photos and a quick stretch, then push onward through the rolling hills of Mbarara.
After a local lunch along the highway, the flat savannah transitions into the breathtaking, steep terraced slopes of Kigezi. We’ll wind our way up into the cloud-forested ridges of Bwindi by late afternoon. Check into the lodge, unpack your gear, grab a heavy dinner, and get some sleep. You’re going to need your legs tomorrow.
• Road Time: Expect roughly 8 to 9 hours of driving. It’s a long haul, but the changing scenery makes it pass quickly.

Day 2:

The Main Event: Tracking the Gorillas of Bwindi

Breakfast is served early. By 7:30 AM, we are at the UWA park headquarters for the mandatory pre-trek briefing. The rangers will split everyone into small groups of eight and assign you to a habituated gorilla family based on your physical fitness levels.
Once you head into the dense undergrowth, the timeline is entirely up to the animals. The trek can take anywhere from a quick 1-hour walk to a grueling 5-hour scramble through thick vines and muddy slopes. But the moment you break through the brush and find them clearing leaves, wrestling, and staring right back at you, the effort vanishes. You get exactly one hour to sit quietly, watch, and take your photos before we hike back out.
• Food: Breakfast at the lodge, a packed pocket lunch for the forest, and dinner back at camp.
• The Highlight: Looking a 200kg silverback directly in the eyes.

Day 3:

Morning Mist & Heading Back to the City

We catch the early sun burning the mist off the canopy, pack up the vehicle, and start the return drive back out of the mountains. We take a different pace on the way back, stopping for lunch at a quiet spot along the highway and breaking up the drive. We’ll have you back in Kampala by late afternoon, or we can drop you straight off at the Entebbe departures terminal if you are catching a late-night flight out.
