The Heart Behind Your Journey: Meet Our Founder, Francis
"A great safari isn’t just about looking at animals through a window. It’s about feeling the heartbeat of the wild alongside someone who has called it home their entire life."
Angara Tours and Travel was founded in January 2017 by Mr. Obedgiu Francis, a man whose life has been shaped by the very landscapes you are coming to explore.
Born and raised right in Pakwach District—the rugged northern gateway to Murchison Falls National Park—Francis grew up with the roaring waters of the River Nile and the endless, golden savannahs literally in his backyard. As a boy, he learned to read the rhythm of the bush, tracking the seasonal movements of elephant herds and listening to the distant roars of lions at night. This wasn't just geography to him; it was home, and it sparked a lifelong love for Uganda’s wildlife and deep cultural traditions.
After years of guiding travelers informally, Francis realized that big, corporate booking agencies were missing the point. They packed tourists into crowded buses and stuck to rigid schedules. Francis wanted something different. He wanted to treat travelers like family, showing them the raw, unvarnished magic of the "Pearl of Africa" through the eyes of an insider.
With that vision, Angara Tours was born. Today, we are a fully licensed boutique agency (UTB License: UTB/RTT/TO/2022/100350), but our soul hasn't changed. Francis still personally climbs into the driver's seat of our custom 4×4 safari vehicles to lead many of our private expeditions.
When you travel with us, you get a friend and an expert leading the way. Whether Francis is expertly navigating a tricky game trail in Murchison Falls, walking you through the logistics of your Bwindi gorilla tracking permits, or sitting around a campfire sharing stories from his childhood in Pakwach, his warmth and deep local knowledge transform a standard holiday into a collection of unforgettable moments.
You aren’t just buying an itinerary when you book with Angara Tours. You are stepping into Francis’s world—and we can’t wait to welcome you home.
